Some folks recently had asked me "Jon, why aren't you making product boxes anymore?" ( I do admit I had cool boxes!)
Answer for that is pretty simple: Environmental impact.
I realize do not do enough volume to be thinking I am destroying the rain forest so this isn't about a humble brag for success in fact its the opposite... someone who routinely orders a half dozen products for sale isn't successful enough to need them and they do a disservice to the environment I say I care about by packaging my products that way.
Since the beginning of the shop my goal was to keep errant parts and batteries out of landfills and circulated as much as possible. That is because I realize what a tremendous waste that broken parts can be. Every broken OneWheel is 15-45 battery cells, 3 PCBs, plastic, aluminum, and steel screws (maybe you have wooden footpads too). It is already a giant waste and promises more junk in the landfill.
The factories that make the accessories we love pollute as well.
I love a pretty box and a show room presentation but I think it can go a little far and doesn't stand for what I stand for as a human.
For me, reuse is just as good, if not better than recycling.
Being able to send packages in the same boxes as things that were sent to me accomplishes the same task... The shop is constantly being sent items for various reasons, most of them related to parts arriving to fix boards.
If we can reduce our own footprint by sending your order in a reused box, we do. Its practical, reduces end user cost, and the savings allows me to continue to develop products that are useful to OneWheels and OneWheelers.
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR THEIR CONTINUED SUPPORT OF THE MOB SHOP. I CANNOT TELL YOU HOW BLESSED I FEEL TO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO BRING YOU ALL THESE ACCESSORIES AND SERVICE. IT HAS TRULY BEEN AN AMAZING ERA IN MY LIFE.
